Running is a positive aspect in Phil’s life – he considers it his outlet which enables him to cope with tough times.  Running also creates opportunities for Phil to engage and be part of the community and make a difference.   Phil is a regular fixture at fun runs and takes time out to volunteer as a TRR Pacing Angel and at times as a motivating Foot Soldier.   Phil says “Knowing that I contribute to supporting the health and well-being of participants in fun runs/parkruns is also a great honour. I particularly like being able to encourage and motivate others, especially my three kids.”   Phil wanted to run Cadbury as the next step in his running journey.  He wanted to achieve something that he felt has been unattainable and to show his children that you can achieve what you set out to do.

We asked Phil what running means to him and he said:

Running keeps me sane and happy, it’s a stress reliever and overall keeps me in good health. I know running has long term benefits, but I also love being “in-the-moment”, simply taking in my surroundings and appreciating what Hobart has to offer, often sharing it with the Tasmanian running community. I would really value the opportunity to take up the challenge of being a TRR MMM and run the 2018 Cadbury Marathon.

Phil successfully completed the 2018 Cadbury Marathon in a very impressive debut time and continues to be an active part of TRR and the wider Tasmanian Running Community.  He is due to compete in first international marathon in Queenstown NZ later in the year.  We wish him all the best!
