Monday Social Run

We’re out for a run every Monday night and you’re welcome to join us.

We meet at Marieville Esplanade in Sandy Bay, and then run along Sandy Bay Rd to Blinking Billy Point and return – about 45 mins.

You don’t have to be a member of TRR to come along – everybody is welcome. Any pace, any ability.

We start at 6pm sharp.
In winter, we strongly recommend bringing a head torch.

Make Me A Marathoner Entry 2024

Your Contact Details

Are you a current TRR Member? *
Applications are open to all regardless of membership status and will be judged on their merits. If it comes to a tie, membership will be the deciding factor.
Address (so we can mail your Golden Ticket!)
City
State
Postcode
Country

Your Running Profile

This will help us understand you as a runner and most importantly help our coaches build your personal training program.
Note: To be eligible for consideration you MUST have run a half marathon previously. This is important not only for your health and safety but to set you up for success at Cadbury.
We want to know what events you're running during the 12 week training period so we can incorporate these into your program... Please note that your main focus should be completing the marathon and as such our coaches may recommend backing off some of the other runs.

Your Motivation

This is the important bit! Write from the heart.
2000 characters Max
2000 characters Max
2000 characters Max
2000 characters Max

Your Commitment

Becoming a marathoner requires passion, motivation and commitment. It's not easy or else everyone would be doing it! To be successful and to get the most out of the program you need to be committed and understand that there is a big time commitment involved. We'll provide you the resources, advice and encouragement to help you succeed but we can't do the training for you. Please answer the following questions honestly and consider your personal circumstances.

Motivating Others

A big part of the success of the program is the fact that participants act as role models who inspire others on their marathon journey. If successful you will be a part of the Make me a Marathoner legacy by sharing your story.
We would ALWAYS contact you for permission to be contacted by media outlets.

Serious Stuff

Running a marathon is not an easy feat. There is a reason that only 1% of the population ever successfully completes the distance. We want to support you doing this safely and want you to cross the finish line smiling, happy and injury-free! TRR strongly recommend seeking health advice from your GP before undertaking a marathon training program.
Any medical information disclosed will remain private and confidential.
We know that life happens, but if you've got a long holiday or other personal/work commitments that may affect your training it's better to factor these in sooner rather than later. Training for a marathon basically takes over your life for 12 weeks!

A little bit extra

We know that sometimes people aren't so great with words, so here is space where you can upload a file with the "little bit extra" to tell us why you would like to be part of the program. This is definitely optional, no pressure to add anything here.

Maximum file size: 134.22MB

Upload your files here. Don't go too crazy - keep it under 4MB and we'll be sweet! You can upload a video, a story, a photo, sound file....we take most file types but try to keep it to the usual suspects so we can see what you've got.

Would you like the opportunity to fundraise in a fun and family-friendly way?

We invite you to apply for the opportunity to coordinate a Crystal Ball Fundraising Run!

For the successful applicant, TRR will host and oversee a non-competitive fun run, with all proceeds going to your chosen cause.

Your fundraiser will take the form of a Crystal Ball Fun Run where the “winner” is the person who can most accurately predict the time it will take them to complete the course (participants will not be allowed to wear any form of timing device!). This fun format gives every participant an equal chance of success regardless of age or ability.

The emphasis is on fun and participation meaning  everyone can join in – even walkers are welcome!

If you’re interested in fundraising with us, please complete the form below and we’ll be in touch to discuss how we can help.

Make Me A Marathoner

TRR’s annual Make Me A Marathoner program supports & encourages four Tasmanian runners to achieve their marathon debut at the Cadbury Marathon.

Our program includes a personalised 12 week training program, ongoing support and advice from accredited coaches, VIP Entry into the Cadbury Marathon, and loads more.

Most importantly, the program will provide participants with an experience that will change their lives and perceptions of what they are capable of. TRR Make Me A Marathoner participants will also have the support and encouragement of the entire TRR community on their marathon journey.

MMM Eligibility

To be eligible for the Make Me a Marathoner program, you must:

  • Have never run a marathon before (first timers only)
  • Live in the state of Tasmania
  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Have successfully completed a Half Marathon event in the last 12 months
  • Be committed to undertake a 12-week training program
  • Be willing and able to train 5+ hours per week for the duration of the program. (You’ll need to run at least 4 times per week)

TRR Angels and Foot Soldiers

TRR Angels and Foot Soldiers is an initiative aimed at providing these roles at Tasmanian fun runs to help people achieve their running goals.

What is a pacer? A pacer is a runner who leads a running event at a certain pace – ensuring that they finish in a particular time. For example, many marathons will incorporate pacers for a particular finish time (e.g. 3:15hrs, 3:30hrs, 3:45hrs, 4:00hrs). The goal of the pacer is to run at an even pace throughout the run (instead of being caught up in the early rush at the start or fade-out towards the end). Many runners also prefer to run in a group, with benefits such as encouragement and camaraderie gained along the way. Some athletes have essentially become professional pacemakers, and are often paid to travel to races and pace at big events. But a lot of the time, the sense of achievement in helping others reach goals means that pacers are usually happy to help out.

Why Angels? The idea came about while two TRR runners had volunteered to pace the 2 hour group for the Point to Pinnacle in 2014. When the going got tough, Dave Bailey provided his usual encouragement and support which led one of the runners to ask if he was “some kind of running angel” (let’s face it…he is). So our Angels were born.

What is a Foot Soldier? This initiative is designed to eliminate everyone’s number one fear surrounding their first fun run – coming last. Our Foot Soldiers have one job – to come last. Well, offering support and encouragement throughout the entire race is their job also.

We offer this service to all interested fun runs throughout the State, and have been doing this in an ongoing capacity for over five years. Race organisers offer complimentary registration to our Angels and Foot Soldiers – if you’re interested in being an Angel or Foot Soldier, drop us a line here.

Our Angels and Foot Soldiers aren’t paid, so we just ask that you say thanks, nod of appreciation, or give them a high-five if you ever see them out running… or if you really want to show your appreciation, there’s nothing better than running a PB or finishing your first fun run. After all, that’s what they’re there for!

Community Initiatives

The Tasmanian Road Runners Inc. hopes to encourage newcomers to running as well as to help inspire those already running to reach their full potential. We think the best way to do that is to work with the community to provide initiatives and opportunities that make running easy and fun. We are currently developing several initiatives for all abilities:

  • Our KICKSTRRT program for those people who have thought about starting running but don’t quite know what they’re supposed to be doing
  • Training groups: providing group training or contacts for people of all abilities
  • TRR Angels: pacing groups at selected local fun runs – with benefits for anyone wanting to run a goal pace but also providing opportunity for experienced runners to give back to the running community
  • Our Make-Me-A-Marathoner program for a few keen runners who may have toyed with the idea of doing their first marathon, but just need a little help

We’ll be populating this information on our website and Facebook throughout the year, but if you’d like more information, feel free to email us in the meantime.
