Intercity Cycleway

Also known as the Hobart Bike Track, the Intercity Cycleway is a fully paved, dual-lane, shared cycling/pedestrian path that runs alongside disused rail tracks.

City to New Town

The track starts at the Hobart Cenotaph carpark located on Queens Domain. It runs north along the Derwent River from the Cenotaph, with pleasant river views for the first few kilometres. It passes under the Tasman Bridge after just over 1km.

At 3km, the track reaches the Cornelian Bay road junction, near the Boathouse. If you wish, you can take a short-but-scenic detour along the gravel track to the Cornelian Bay Lookout (2km return). There’s a great view of Kunanyi / Mt Wellington as you continue north on the main track, past the New Town Nursery.

North to Claremont

As the Cycleway continues north on its journey to Claremont, the scenic path turns into a practical commuter corridor through light-industrial districts, particularly in Derwent Park and Glenorchy. Take care with road crossings in these areas.

The highway overpass in Berriedale is just after 10km. From there, you travel past the Moorilla vineyards outside MONA and get some water views at around 11km, while looking over a road that forms part of the official Cadbury marathon course. The track terminates at just over 13km, in Claremont. You can venture right up to the Cadbury Chocolate factory for a little extra, and take in the sights of the start/finish to Hobart’s iconic Cadbury Marathon.

Note: Because the track is used by pedestrians and cyclists, no dogs are permitted anywhere on the Cycleway.
